CASE STUDY 1:
VEGETATION MANAGEMENT PLAN FOR A LARGE LANDHOLDER IN THE WIMMERA
In response to allegations of illegally clearing native vegetation, our client undertook to enhance and protect in perpetuity, a significant area of native vegetation comprising a number of remnant patches.
To assist in negotiating an appropriate outcome with local government and the regulatory agencies, Sunraysia Environmental undertook a vegetation assessment across the 45,000 hectares holding to identify the species and vegetation communities present. Vegetation quality assessments were undertaken on a number of remnants considered suitable for offsets.
Two management plans were developed: a Conservation Reserve Management Plan (CRMP) specifically addressed the offset areas and a Vegetation Management Plan (VMP) addressed ongoing native vegetation and protection across the whole of the holding for a ten year duration.
Supported by our work, which clearly showed that the environmental benefits achieved through the CRMP and the VMP were significantly greater than any losses that may have been sustained, our client avoided a financial penalty and prosecution.
