CASE STUDY 4:
CONTAMINATED SITE ASSESSMENT & REMEDIATION
Preparation for sale prompted an investigation of the integrity of underground fuel tanks and the fuel distribution system at an old service station in regional NSW. Fifty year old tanks were found to be leaking and a layer of fuel was perched on top of shallow
groundwater within 250 m of a river.
Following a drilling program to determine the extent and volume of the plume, pumping and monitoring wells were installed to remove the fuel and determine when remediation was complete.
The site was successfully remediated, enabling a successful sale and redevelopment.
